Michele Bachmann Gets 24/7 Security Detail After Threat From ISIS

Michele Bachmann, Republican congresswoman from Minnesota, has been given round-the-clock security detail shortly after a threat from ISIS emerged online.



According to Politico, Capitol Police has given Bachmann 24/7 security detail after a threat against the congresswoman allegedly coming from the Islamic militant group appeared on the internet, alarming federal law enforcement officials. Sources for the website reported that Bachmann has been provided with extensive security measures as a response to the Islamic militants' threats against the congresswoman. Although the specifics of the threat haven't been revealed, security detail has been given to ensure Bachmann's safety as she performs her tasks in the congress.

Security personnel will be present with Michele Bachmann during her congressional duties in the capital and while she is at her home state in Minnesota. Police security will remain with Bachmann until she steps down from office at the end of this congress.

The Capitol Police's Dignitary Protection Division, the branch tasked with keeping Bachmann safe during her political duties, has been briefed on facts about the ISIS. People from Capitol Police declined to comment when asked about the enhanced security that has been prepared for the congresswoman.

In an email to Politico, Capitol Police spokeswoman Kimberly Schneider wrote, "The U.S. Capitol Police does not discuss law enforcement operations or security regarding Members of Congress,"

Fox News reported that a recent video from ISIS emerged online containing a blurred image of Bachmann and a voice clip from one of her speeches where she spoke against the rise of Islam. Sources to Fox speculated that Bachmann's image was blurred because she was a woman and was not wearing what the Islamic militants considered a proper attire.

Michelle Bachmann has been outspoken against ISIS, and Islam in general, especially since tensions began to arise in Iraq and Syria this year. During a recent speech at the Value Voter Summit last September, Bachmann called upon President Obama to consider serious military actions against the Islamic militants.

"And I believe if you have an evil of an order of this magnitude, you take it seriously. You declare war on it, you don't dance around it. Just like the Islamic State has declared war on the United States of America."

Bachmann also suggested a bill that would renounce the citizenship of any American who has been proven to join ISIS.

Michele Bachmann has announced plans to retire from the congress, although she hasn't dismissed rumors of running for a higher office.

Lumber Defects are Usually Cosmetic

Most defects encountered in the lumber you buy for building furniture or home improvement are merely cosmetic, not structural. In fact, for some purposes, defects are valued. Take knotty pine for instance, which was a trendy wall paneling choice for many years.

Other defects, other than knots, include bark pockets, splitting, checking, bug damage, warping, and more. Many of these can give your projects character. For example, burls are highly cherished. Yes, you can end up paying a premium for a cosmetic "defect".

In most cases, you will only be concerned with staying away from checking, warping, and splitting, as these kind of defects make joinery difficult.

National Hardwood Lumber Association Grading

# 2A Common. This simply reduces the size to 3" X 2'. You can see where we are going here. On smaller woodworking projects, the opportunity for savings are greater.

Shopping for Lumber is Not Grocery Shopping

Unlike packaged consumer goods at the grocery store or the local Walmart, choosing the appropriate stock at your local home improvement store or lumber yard can really make a difference. While the grading discussed above is important, size is often critical.

One hardwood vendor in Houston that I like has a room relegated to what carpet shops call "remnants", off cuts from orders that are too small for big projects like entertainment centers, but a treasure trove for box-builders.

The bottom line? Consider what you really need and pick through the stacks!

Screenwriter Katie Dippold knows a bit about funny ladies in action films as she penned Feig's gal pal cop comedy "The Heat," which starred McCarthy and Sandra Bullock.

Feig's announcement about rebooting "Ghostbusters" as a brand new reboot with an all-female cast isn't shocking considering his past female-driven hits such as "Bridesmaids" and "The Heat."

"My favorite thing to do is work with funny women," Feig told Entertainment Weekly about his decision. "I was like, what if it was an all female cast? If they were all women?Suddenly, my mind kind of exploded: that would be really fun. Then I thought, well, what if we just make it new? It's not coming into the world that existed before. It's always hard if the world has gone through this big ghost attack, how do you do it again? I wanted to come into our world where there's talk of ghosts but they're not really credible, and so what would happen in our world if this happened today?"

I want the technology to be even cooler. I want it to be really scary, and I want it to happen in our world today that hasn't gone through it so it's like, oh my God what's going on?"

While original "Ghostbusters" director Ivan Reitman is stepping back as a director to serve as a producer, there's no official word if actors Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray will return as cameos for die-hard fans.

Though Murray himself had a few suggestions of which actresses he'd like to see running after ghosts in the reboot, including Feig regulars Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig.

"Melissa would be a spectacular Ghostbuster," Murray told the Toronto Star. "And Kristen Wiig is so funny -- God, she's funny! I like this girl Linda Cardellini ("Mad Men") a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there."

Here's hoping for a feisty female version of Slimer too.

Patricia Richardson And Tim Allen Are Having A Mini 'Home Improvement' Reunion




Does everybody know what time it is? Reunion time!

Entertainment Weekly reports that there will be a mini "Home Improvement" reunion this season on "Last Man Standing" when Patricia Richardson, who played Jill Taylor in the series, guest stars as one of Tim Allen's neighbors.

Richardson will play Helen Potts, a divorced character who likes to do home repairs and is bitter about her ex-husband, a guy who often destroyed things that he tried to fix around their house. (Sound familiar?)



Despite this mini reunion, Richardson previously told TMZ that a major "Home Improvement" get-together isn't going to happen due to the death of Earl Hindman, aka the Taylor's eccentric neighbor Wilson.

The addition of Richardson makes this the third time a main actor from the classic series has appeared on the show. "Home Improvement's" Richard Karn and Jonathan Taylor Thomas have both previously made appearances.

"Last Man Standing" returns Friday, Oct. 3, at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.

By Jim Donovan: The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs announced today that it is citing 26 home improvement contractors for alleged violations of state consumer protection laws. The state is seeking $251,602 in civil penalties and consumer restitution, based on complaints and referrals by consumers across New Jersey.

New Jersey law (and Pennsylvania too by the way) requires that home improvement contractors register with the Attorney General's Office.

Today's action follows the Division's July 16, 2014 announcement of Notices of Violation to 68 home improvement contractors, seeking a total of $1,046,978 in consumer restitution and $276,250 in civil penalties. Home improvement complaints are typically the largest consumer complaint category the Division of Consumer Affairs receives each year - as was the case in 2013, when the Division received 1,434 consumer complaints about home improvement contractors.

Each of the contractors receiving a Notice of Violation has the opportunity to contest the alleged violation, or the opportunity to correct the violation by desisting from any practices in violation of the law, paying a civil penalty and/or consumer restitution where required, and submitting an application for registration, if not registered. Each contractor also may contest the Division's assessment of consumer restitution.

First, why did your air conditioner freeze up?

How to Fix Your Frozen AC Unit

Thawing out your AC only requires three easy steps.

o First, head to your thermostat and switch it from COOL to OFF.

o Next switch your fan from AUTO to ON. This will start defrosting the evaporator coil (sometimes called the A-coil), found inside your home. You should give your unit a few hours to fully defrost. Might we suggest an impromptu trip to the movies or an ice cream outing?

o Defrosting means dripping water. Before you leave, make sure your condensate pan is in good shape and draining properly. This is important to avoid costly water damage repairs. Simply dropping one or two into the pan will eliminate any odors while preventing buildup that could lead to overflows.

o After giving your A-coil plenty of time to defrost, switch your thermostat back from OFF to COOL. If delightfully cool air is once again flowing from the vents, you've properly thawed your air conditioner.

Islamabad, Oct 4: At least six people were killed and 12 injured on Saturday when a blast occurred in a passenger van in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkwa province, Geo News reported.

The incident occurred in Kohat city's Peshawar Chowk in the morning.

Miscreants had planted a bomb near the bus stand, police said, adding the bodies and injured were rushed to hospital. The van was destroyed for which five kilogramme explosives were used.

It was the second attack on a passenger bus in the province. Earlier, seven people were killed in the previous blast that took place in Peshawar, according to Dawn online.

The province is witnessing what appears to be a blowback from the military operation in the tribal region of North Waziristan.

The provincial capital of Peshawar has also witnessed a sudden rise in attacks that have targeted police and military officials along with civilian interests.

SARES-REGIS Multifamily Fund Acquires Alterra, 143 Apartments in San Jose, Calif., Renovation Plan Announced






IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SARES-REGIS Multifamily Fund completed its sixth acquisition with the closing of Alterra, a 143-unit community in San Jose, Calif.



"Alterra offers a solid value-add opportunity to renovate and reposition the property so it competes with neighboring communities while capitalizing on the region's significant employment and rental growth. Alterra is our third acquisition in California since we formed the fund last year," said Kenneth Gladstein, Co-Chief Investment Officer of the SARES-REGIS Multifamily Fund.

The 5.1-acre gated community at 1640 La Rossa Circle was built in 1988 southeast of downtown San Jose. It is near the Almaden Expressway, Highway 87 and less than one mile from the VTA, Santa Clara's light rail system, and Caltrain. Alterra also is close to the desirable Willow Glen neighborhood as well as to major employers, including Apple, eBay and Cisco Systems, Gladstein said.

Alterra's one-bedroom with den and two-bedroom apartments are spacious, averaging 833 sq. ft. Although the previous owner completed significant exterior and common-area renovation, the apartment interiors are original, Gladstein said.

The value-add program for Alterra includes upgrading of kitchen cabinets, countertops, stainless appliances, flooring, lighting and plumbing fixtures.

Takeoffs resume at Southern California airports after glitch halts flights

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Takeoffs at several southern California airports, including Los Angeles International Airport, were halted for up to two hours on Wednesday after computer problems led a federal air traffic control facility to issue a "ground stop," officials said.

Flights at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) were held and others bound for the airport were diverted to other destinations and expected to depart for LAX within hours, airport spokeswoman Nancy Suey Castles said in an email.

There were, in all, roughly 6,800 passengers on the 50 arriving and departing flights that were canceled at LAX, Castles said. Twenty-seven flights were diverted to other airports and thousands of passengers suffered delays.

The ground stop at LAX, which last year served nearly 67 million passengers, began at about 2 p.m. (3 p.m. EDT), said airport spokeswoman Amanda Parsons. By 4 p.m., LAX announced it had been lifted.

The Federal Aviation Administration put in place a similar stop on takeoffs at John Wayne Airport in Orange County and Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, but those stops were later lifted, according to statements on the airports' Twitter pages.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said the agency's Los Angeles Center air traffic control facility experienced "technical issues" and temporarily stopped accepting additional flights into the airspace it manages.

"Some flights were diverted and the agency issued a nationwide ground stop for flights heading into the airspace managed by the center," Gregor said in a statement. He could not be reached for further comment.

Bob Hope Airport said in a Twitter post that the ground stop had been issued due to computer problems with the FAA's system, and Parsons also said she believed the halt on takeoffs was related to a computer problem.
